The CISF and police could not immediately say what led constable Ashok Kumar, 44, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, to commit suicide just before he was to attend a routine debriefing session in the afternoon.

Kumar was with the CISF's 8th Battalion. "He was absolutely normal and even had his weekly off on Saturday," Madurai superintendent of police V Balakrishnan said.
