After drawing flak for failing to work out some of the sensational cases which were causing much embarrassment to them, the city police appear to have hit the jackpot.

In one go they worked out the spine-chilling loot in Civil Lines, arrested an inter-district outlaw and busted the much dreaded Bawaria gang which has the expertise in hood-winking people and cheating them.

The Civil Lines and Khuldabad police which had been jointly pursuing the Rs 2.4 lakh loot case managed to get success with the arrest of Ajeet Singh alias Pappu Kurmi resident of Bamrauli, under Dhumanganj police station. The loot had taken place near Boys' High School on May 22 this year. Ajeet confessed his involvement during interrogation. Police also recovered Rs 43,000 of the looted money from his possession. The arrested miscreant also revealed the name of his accomplice Pramod Singh who was involved in the loot with him. What had shaken the police was the daring manner in which the culprits after shooting the victim had snatched the cash and sped away on the mobike.

The arrest was done near the Khusrobagh fly-over where both the accused were reportedly waiting for another kill. However, Pramod, the arrested miscreant's accomplice, managed to slip away. Cops are after him.

The second success for cops reportedly came late last night after the SOG team led by Manoj Singh Raghuvanshi under the guidance of the two COs Rajeshwar Singh and Rahul Srivastava arrested one Sri Prakash Singh, resident of Jaunpur district. He had looted a Maruti Wagon R, Rs 5 lakh in cash and 20 kg silver from a businessman. The incident which had taken place in Tehri Garhwal had shaken the entire Uttaranchal state. Sri Prakash allegedly fired at the police party which tried to arrest him. He was, however, overpowered. Police was interrogating him for the whereabouts of his accomplices.

Meanwhile, cops claimed yet another success with the arrest of three members of Bawaria gang. The SOG team working under the command of DIG range Akhilesh Mehrotra arrested the trio from the Prayag railway station after being tipped of about their presence. Police recovered 15 gold coins, 10 silver coins, Rs 7,000 in cash and some intoxicants from their possession. The gang had expertise in looting people after drugging them. They were also involved in breaking open the locked houses and stealing. This peripatetic gang had been moving from one district to another.
