City police threaten action against schools flouting bus safety norms

“We have issued notices to all those schools whose drivers have been involved in violation of traffic norms in the past. These drivers are putting the lives of students at risk,” said DCP (traffic) Bharti Arora.

She said the schools have been told to direct the drivers to follow traffic rules. “We have also told them to either sack the guilty drivers or cancel the contracts of the bus operators,” said Arora. “We will not tolerate any violation of rules. A fresh campaign to check the level of adherence of safety norms will be launched,” she added.

The school authorities, however, termed these actions as “arm twisting techniques used by the administration at times”.

Earlier, the Gurgaon district administration had asked school authorities to ensure compliance of all safety instructions issued by the traffic police department as well as the directions issued by the high court and Supreme Court. District magistrate PC Meena has invoked Section 144 of Cr PC for enforcement of these guidelines in the district.
