A kind of vehicle tracking system, it will be furnished with a GPS (global positioning system) device that provides accurate tracking and navigation data of vehicles and their movement.

It will have a high-resolution and digital map facility which will help PCR operators locate their position within their respective jurisdictions.

The police control room will also be able to keep an eye on the movement of vehicles which will help in stopping unauthorised use of vehicles.

“Policemen have to often ask victims for directions to the crime spot. But with this advanced technology, this problem will be resolved,” said DCP (Crime) Maheshwar Dayal.

The system will help improve the response time of PCRs. Talks are on with a leading software firm regarding the system. “We have been working with one of the leading software companies in India. The project will be finalised soon. It will help improve policing in the city. The system will have real-time location facility. The police control room will be able to monitor the real-time GPS location of vehicles,” said Dayal.

Last year, the city police had claimed that the police response time had been reduced to 3-9 minutes from 12 minutes.
