City?s Rekha dreams high

REKHA BHOWARIA, a BA third year student from Bhopal, is a gripping tale of fighting odds. Rekha, who has just won a gold medal in an individual category at the recent 50th National Shooting Championship, comes from an impoverished background. Daughter of a daily wager, Rekha is as dreamy as she is practical and knows that she has a long way to go.

Daughter of a daily wager, Rekha is as dreamy as she is practical and knows that she has a long way to go.

But the dreams and the determination to overcome day-to-day challenges of life always remain hidden behind the shy but dignified face. Not the one to be easily contented, Rekha wants to further hone her shooting skills.

Rekha, a cadet of 4 MP Battalion (Bhopal), held a rifle for the first time at a NCC camp. This incident gave a new lease of life to her otherwise mundane activities. She owes her success to her coach Col M S Chauhan. It was under his training that Rekha realised her love for the gun.

“Shooting has given me a key to unlock all my inhibitions,” she says. According to her, the type of environment NCC provides to its cadets in realising their true potential is exceptional, as it provides a platform to many from humble backgrounds to make a mark.

She says, “During my struggle I have received important help from unexpected quarters and would like thank them all.” Rekha’s optimism and pristine ambition has now made her a role model for many in her locality in Bhopal.
