According to sources, the decision was taken at a high level meeting, in which all those with vigilance or police cases against them should be transferred to other "lesser sensitive" departments.

A total of 184 tainted engineers have been transferred to other departments, such as sanitation and health.

"Apart from those who had vigilance or police cases against them, we have also transferred those who have been working on the same post for the last three years or more. Complaints about them had been piling up but after the Lalita Park collapse incident, the pressure had increased," said an MCD official.

The civic body has been receiving complaints of officials demanding bribe from property owners. Jagdish Mamgain, chairman, MCD Works Committee said, "Last year, too, we wanted to remove them but some of them had the backing of politicians. Hence, we were unable to take action.”
