Chandel accused the police personnel of deliberately stopping his approvers at the barricading and denying entry to party’s national president Zai Islam Chaudhary and state president Ram Singh Yadav.

However, the matter was resolved after returning officer Uday Veer Singh intervened. Singh allowed the entry of Chandel’s approvers- Pradeep Singh and Ashok following which he filed his papers. “I will report the matter to the State Election Commissioner and lodge a formal complaint about the high-handiness of the police personnel,” said Chandel. The district administration has not deputed any senior official at the main barricading, he complained.

In all, 44 nominations were filed for the post of corporators. BSP’s district vice-president Mohammed Saleem was the second candidate to file nomination for the mayoral seat.

The security in the area has been beefed-up. Additional police personnel have been deployed at the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) campus and on all the four floors of the main building of the KMC to prevent any untoward incident.
