An emergency meeting of the general body was held on Wednesday. After long discussion, a resolution to conduct fresh elections was passed unanimously. The general body expressed shock over the killing of two labourers in an incident of porch collapse at the under-construction advocates’ chambers in the civil court.

A five-member committee of senior advocates has been constituted to conduct a fresh election for the Bar Association. The general body has demanded demolition of all under-construction chambers and their reconstruction.

They demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation for the family members of the labourers.
The porch had collapsed on Sunday, killing two labourers. The chambers were being constructed by the State Construction Corporation. The State Government had allocated Rs 46.50 lakh for construction of the chambers.

General body members of the Civil Court Bar Association blamed the construction corporation and contractor for using sub-standard material. Meanwhile, the same corporation has been asked to construct advocates’ chamber on the Collectorate premises. A sum of Rs 34.61 lakh has been allocated for it. Local MLA RMD Agrawal demanded that the agency for construction of the advocates’ chamber at the Collectorate court be changed in light of the porch collapse.
