Civil services no more techies? priorities

THERE IS a tremendous change in the stance of students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, (IIT-K) with regard to preparations for the civil services examination. Qualifying the BTech course with flying colours is now more important for them than simultaneously preparing for the civil services examinations soon after completing the course.

About two years ago, the students keen on taking the civil services examination spent a lot of time in the library to study the subjects they wanted to opt for.

This often put them under serious mental strain and they even failed to do well in the B Tech examinations.

Several students of the final year who completed the course and got placement said that they would now think of preparing for the civil services. Sharat, Jauhar, Minas and others told Hindustan Times that they had learnt from the experiences of their seniors that two courses could not be handled at the same time. This not only caused tension but those who ventured to do so failed to get time for recreation and fell a prey to isolation and depression.

But a handful of students feel that their representation in administrative services would be able to put a check on the arbitrary policies of the partners in the government .
