The security forces fired smoke shells and chased mobs with batons to quell any attempt by protesters to march towards the residences of the two youths killed in the security forces' firing on Sunday. One was killed during a pre-dawn operation and another was hit by bullets during the protests the same day.

The major clash took place in Khurhama area when a group of youths hurled stones at the CRPF and police deployed on Srinagar-Leh highway. Two persons were injured. A minor clash was also witnessed in Ganderbal.

Hardline separatists had called for a march towards the houses of firing victims. The authorities swooped on the separatists to foil the protest march. Most separatist leaders, including chairmen of Hurriyat factions Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chief Yasin Malik, were placed under house arrest. Several were detained while they tried to visit Bandipora.

Separatists have rejected the army probe into the incident saying "it is mere an eyewash". The army has started a probe to see if the troops were involved in the killing and promised to punish those found guilty. An FIR has been lodged against the army's 13 RR by the authorities in the incident.
