Amid slogans, the body of a civilian who was allegedly shot dead by CRPF personnel was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
The body Ghulam Mohiuddin Malik, a carpenter by profession, was laid to rest with thousands of people attending his last rites at Keeygam village, official sources said.
The burial took place after the village elders were persuaded by the senior police, civil authorities, the local MLA and senior People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Syed Bashir Ahmad.
Rural Development Minister A M Sagar flew from Jammu to Keeygam and announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kins of the deceased and a government job to a family member.
He also assured the agitated villagers that the CRPF camp in the village would be relocated.
Malik, father of four children, was allegedly shot dead by CRPF personnel inside his house, sparking massive protests with people refusing to bury the dead unless the guilty personnel are punished.
CRPF has already ordered an inquiry into the incident and suspended four of its personnel including an assistant commandant, while local police have filed a murder case against the personnel for killing the civilian.
