Class, not gender

Apropos of the report Gender bias (June 23), it is wrong to say that there is discrimination against lady officers. I am a male Short Service Commission officer, who is also facing the same kind of discrimination. However, the army authorities have promised to rectify this problem. It is more correct to say that it is discrimination against one class of officers.

Check population
In the debate on reservations, no one has talked about population explosion. A lower population growth rate will reduce dependency on reservation within a few decades. Also, a one-time reservation is more equitable. An SC/ST/OBC recruited as a Class I officer surely needs no reservation for succeeding generations?

More seats
Apropos of Barkha Dutt’s article The English divide (June 24), the real problem is the disharmony created due to lack of seats. The DU and IIT have not increased their number of seats in decades.

II
Barkha Dutt criticises call centre workers’ acquired accents. In business, the client is supreme and the endeavour is to fully satisfy them, lest one lose business. Moreover, India has to go a long way before getting at par with developed countries. Only when we get there will we be able to stop looking up to the West.

{{/usCountry}}Illogical demand
The BJP’S protest against the release of Krrish in Indore on the excuse that Priyanka Chopra has links with the underworld is illogical. If it is proved that she has any such connections, the law should take its course, but why should a film she has acted in be banned? There are lots of politicians with alleged underworld links. Why is there no protest against them?
