Classic denims are the buzzword right now, as comfort fits and straight styles are back with a bang on international ramps. While it may take some time for the look to hit the domestic market, the straighter tighter fits are finding way into the merchandise of most brands.

“Thank God embroidered jeans are out, especially those with butterflies. They looked ridiculous. We had an overdose of surface embellishment on jeans last season so it’s about time you let your jeans breathe,” says designer Ranna Gill. “This season spells the return of the cigarette slim pants and white denim. Classic shades of denim will also be popular.”

Adhering to this, the marketing head of Buddy Davis, Atul Agraawal, says: “Sandblasting and washes are out. The trend now is towards accessorising your denims with an additional pocket or adding rivets.” Belts and loops will now add character to the garment rather than tints and washes, feels Janani Subramanian, brand manager, Wrangler.

Priced Rs 1,200 onwards, Lee Cooper is also offering a range of styles. “The dirty distressed look is passé although denims with lycra are really popular,” reveals marketing head Vishal Gupta.

Since fashion is reverting to the classic look, Lee has launched the 101Z, a heritage style inspired by a 1920s Lee jeans style that was the first to have a button fly, reveals brand manager Tarun Khanna. “The minimal look in denim is calling the shots,” he sums up.
