The Delhi High Court’s decision to impose penalty for defacing public property is welcome. Travel by Delhi Metro on any route and you find untidy houses with junk lying on their rooftops and unfinished constructions. Are we really preparing for the Commonwealth Games? The High Court should also impose penalty on such property owners.

Wasteful expenditure
Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati’s BSP wasted crores of rupees to celebrate her birthday. How many millions of rupees will she and her party waste for such fruitless expenses if she becomes India’s next Prime Minster? She seems to be interested in self-development while Gujarat CM Narendra Modi has proved that he is interested only in his state’s development.

The editorial Legitimate concern (January 15) shows a true picture of the insecurity of women in India. Metro matters
Alpana Kishore in An elevated white elephant (January 16) offers reasons to support objections against the Delhi Metro. Why was such concern not shown for their poor cousins in west Delhi? Residents in central and west Delhi were more concerned about the facility offered than their privacy. South Delhi residents sho-uld learn to be patient from west Delhiites.
