Want to know the BEST or local train routes? Would you like to be updated about the auto and taxi fares? Or do you need more information on Sunday Mega Block on local trains or access the Indian Railways PNR status finder? Now you can get all this information with just one click. A new website, www.mobond.org, lets Mumbaikars download offline mobile applications that simplify daily travel. These applications are available free of cost and one does not need Internet to access them.

“Our goal is to create useful applications for people and, most importantly, not to charge them but generate revenue through some other means,” says a team member from Mobond. The core team at Mobond.org consists of a team of enthusiastic software professionals and students from Ruparel, VJTI, JBIMS and Pillai College. However, they urge all team members to stay away from publicising themselves, and not disclose personal information publicly. It’s also the reason why they have started the website with a .org suffix, as it is not a profit-making venture. However, they do want more people to be aware of their products. They say, “This is so that people who do not know about it can take advantage of it.”

Any phone that supports java application having, CLDC 1.0 or above, MIDP 2.0 or above, can access these applications. Moreover, if you have activated GPRS on your phones then you can directly install the software by browsing from your mobile (using native browser) to the site. The team member says, “The m-Indicator is basically a Mumbai Travel guide and it is doing well. Within 50 days, it got around 70,000 users. Since last week, m-Indicator is growing by 3,000 new users a day, which is the indicator of its usefulness.”
