Former United States Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush appeared at Super Bowl 39 on Sunday, making an appeal for relief contributions to aid victims of the Asian tsunami disaster.
"What we're trying to do is raise as much as we can and make sure it's well spent," Clinton said. "This affects not only the rest of the world but our children's future too."
Democrat Clinton defeated Republican incumbent Bush, the father of current US President George W Bush, in the 1992 US Presidential election. But the rivals have united to help raise money for victims of the disaster.
"We view this as very important work," Bush said. "This transcends politics. This is more important. This is about saving lives."
Clinton was named by current president Bush as a UN envoy with a mission to try and close the gap between an estimated 12 million dollars in destruction and the six million dollars in global relief money pledges.
"They want me to make sure the long-term reconstruction is successful," Clinton said. "They want me to go hit on these governments for the rest of this money and try to prevent future disasters if we can."
