CHIEF MINISTER Mulayam Singh Yadav said that the Gond community should try to gain political power. “Rights do not come without struggle,” he said.
The CM was speaking at an Akhil Bharatvarsh Gond Mahasabha programme, on the banks of the Gomti.
He said, “The Gond community needs to become politically aware. The community has to unite to help the Samajwadi Party win by two-thirds majority in the forthcoming elections,” he said.
He announced an office for the Gond Samaj in Lucknow, a statue of ‘Virangana’ Rani Durgawati and a plan for development of the Gonds.
Pointing to the social, financial and political backwardness of the group of people, he assured that government officials and Mahasabha office-bearers would meet soon to prepare a development plan for the community.
Recalling the glorious past of the community, the CM said that Gonds had been at the forefront of the freedom struggle. “However, even after 58 years of Independence, development eludes them,” he added.
