CM kicks off second phase of direct benefit scheme

Chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Tuesday launched the second phase of Aadhar-based direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme for the beneficiaries of various state and Centre-run welfare schemes. Singh said the second phase had been started in six districts of Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, Solan, Kullu and Mandi.

Chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Tuesday launched the second phase of Aadhar-based direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme for the beneficiaries of various state and Centre-run welfare schemes.

Singh said the second phase had been started in six districts of Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, Solan, Kullu and Mandi.

“A sum of Rs 8.25 crore would be transferred in the bank accounts of 9,189 people under various government benefit schemes,” he said, adding that the scheme would benefit the people belonging to the lower strata of society and minorities for availing benefits of various schemes, including scholarships, health schemes and old age pension.

He appreciated the work of the departments concerned and Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for implementing the scheme.

He added that 83% population of the state had been issued Aadhar cards and 64,45,602 persons had been enrolled for the same out of the total population of 68,64,602.

“The remaining population will be enrolled in next 2-3 months for which the government has opened 134 centres,” Singh said, adding that the first phase of DBT scheme was introduced in January and so far a sum of Rs 2.16 crore had been deposited in the bank accounts of 8,452 beneficiaries.
The chief minister directed the information technology and other departments concerned to complete the Aadhar enrollment in the state by September 2013.

Meanwhile, principal secretary, information technology, PC Dhiman introduced helpline number 0177-2626709 to resolve various issues and problems relating to Aadhar cards.
