Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s presence in the city gave some respite to the people and Monday saw no rostering. Even routine rostering was done away with by the UPPCL. But barely 24 hours later, the already dismal power scenario got worse and the entire city was subjected to prolonged hours of rostering.

No Kesco official was willing to comment officially on the issue. However, on conditions of anonymity, a senior KESCo official said, “It seems the Power Corporation is trying to make up for the extra power supplied to the city on Monday due to the CM’s visit.”

As the city was kept free from rostering on Monday, the UPPCL, it seems, was making all out efforts to compensate for its mistake by subjecting the city to intensive rostering, added the official.

As usual, southern areas of the city were worst hit and faced power cuts for prolonged hours. Apart from daily rostering, almost all areas of south city faced power cuts for prolonged hours due to local faults. The areas worst affected included Saket Nagar, Govind Nagar, Barra, Naubasta, Juhi, Baradevi, Jawahar Nagar, Ratan Lal Nagar and Babupurwa among other areas. Overloading and tripping were reported to be the main reasons for the power crisis.

Sanjeev Nigam, a Saket Nagar resident and a teacher by profession said, “It has become a routine affair that all areas of the south city have to face power crisis for prolonged hours in addition to the routine rostering.”
