CM orders judicial probe

CHIEF MINISTER Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday ordered a judicial inquiry by a retired High Court judge into the river tragedy at Ratangarh in Datia district.

The State Government suspended SDM SS Trivedi and SDOP C R Chandoria of Seondha in Datia district for the dereliction of duty, Chouhan said after visiting the site.

In another development, Datia SP Pramod Verma and Collector M Geetha were shifted. Geetha was posted as the Additional Excise Commissioner in Gwalior. Ashok Shivhare will replace her. M K Mudgal was appointed the new SP of Datia.

The Chief Minister said a probe by the Principal Secretary, Home, had been earlier ordered. After taking stock of the situation, the Government decided a judicial inquiry.

Chouhan also promised a coal-tar road link and a bridge on Sindh near Ratangarh, the work for which will begin by next month.

He announced a cash reward of Rs 5,000 each to the boatmen who helped in rescue operation. A moved Chouhan termed the tragedy unfortunate and said no amount of money could compensate the loss.
