IN AN obvious bid to reward loyalists and keep others in good humour, yet another reshuffle was carried out in the portfolios of five ministers of State (independent charge) and a Minister of State of the Mulayam Singh ministry this evening. At the same time more MLAs have been appointed as advisors and given ministerial rank.
According to an official communiqué, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has retained key portfolios of 27 departments. Those rewarded had played a key-role during the recent crisis over the rebel BSP MLAs issue. The CM has divested charge of Entertainment Tax Department to give it to Minister of State (Independent Charge) Dinesh Singh, who has been divested of the Fisheries Department. Minister of State (Independent Charge) Veerendra Singh now gets the charge of Forest Department. Minister Handicapped Welfare Shyam Narain has been given additional charge of the Fisheries Department.
The CM has also divested charge of Technical Education to give the additional charge to Minister of State (Independent charge) for Agriculture Education Yogesh Pratap Singh.
Minister of State for Women Welfare, Culture Rajendra Singh Rana has been given additional charge of the IT and Electronics departments. Minister of State Shailendra Yadav has now been given charges of the Housing Department that is with the CM. The portfolios that the CM has retained include Home, Vigilance, Appointments, Personnel, Information, Election, Finance, Tax and Registration (Trade Tax), Justice, Legislation, Planning, Protocol, Civil Aviation, Estate, Excise, Secondary Education, Higher Education, Medical Education (except Ayurvedic and Homeopathic Education), Medical and Health, Housing and Urban Planning, Cane Development and Sugar Industry and UP Re-organisation Coordination.
Those appointed advisors and given minister of state rank include former minister Chaudhary Mohamamd Bashir, who becomes advisor to the Medical and Health Department, Rajnikant Verma has been appointed advisor to the Higher Education Department while Ram Prasad Savita becomes advisor to the Medical Education Department. Zia Ahmad Khan has been appointed advisor to the Secondary Education Department. Similarly, Chairman Rajya Lalit Kala Academy Brijendra Pratap Singh has been appointed advisor to the Housing Department.
