The caller from the CM’s office, according to LMC sources, conveyed that Yadav was reportedly annoyed with these political wannabes, who had put up their own photographs alongside his on the hoardings and cutouts that dotted the city’s main thoroughfares. “We were unsure initially about the genuineness of the caller’s claim. To make sure that it was not a prank being played out on us, we sent one of our official to 5 Kalidas Marg (CM’s official residence) to crosscheck the message,” said an LMC official. Once the orders were confirmed, the LMC launched an extensive crackdown against these unauthorised billboards and cutouts at around 5 pm. The drive, which commenced from the main crossing of Hazratganj, continued till late in the evening during which the LMC squads removed over five-dozen hoardings, cutouts and kiosks.

At the end of the operation, the enforcement teams, according to him, had removed 20 hoardings, 40 kiosks and eight cutouts from these routes.
