CMO: Be alert against diarrhoea outbreak

AS THE season is approaching in which diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases spread rapidly, chief medical officer Dr Shantimal Singhavi has directed superintendents and MOICs to ensure that the doctors remain present in hospitals and CHCs round the clock.

He has also directed to set aside a few beds for diarrhoea patients in district hospitals and CHCs. A team of health inspectors has also been formed which will regularly collect samples of food items from different parts of the city.

In an official communiqué released on Thursday, Dr Singhavi said the food inspectors had been directed to immediately destroy stale food items and issue notice to vendors and shop owners under the PFA Act. The superintendents had been advised to stock adequate quantity of anti-diarrhoea and other life saving medicines. The doctors’ team would have to immediately respond in case there is any report of diarrhoea cases in the media. They would have to provide curative as well as preventive treatment to the people in diarrhoea-affected areas, he added.
