Call it LU bosses’ strategic win or students’ buckling under pressure, the cold drink did what the V-C’s sweet talks could not for past 10 days!

In fact, the fast-unto-death by the student leaders over several teething issues had made them not only hungry but also receptive to the V-C suggestions. And the university bosses’ timely cold-drink offer coolly won them over. The rest was history.

But the best part is that the student leaders who set an ultimatum that they would continue their stir until V-C met them were happy and satisfied when controller of examination RBS Verma met them. He tactfully convinced student leaders and forced them to agree to terms and conditions set by the V-C. Those facing expulsion and released from jails were asked to give an affidavit declaring that they would keep away from unruly activities in future. The LU committee would sympathetically consider their demand.

The varsity categorically told that police verification of the students would continue. In an official communiqué, the V-C said: “Those students who will furnish an affidavit in this regard on a stamp paper would be provisionally accepted for admission. However, girl students and student of good institutions will be given exemption from police verification.” The V-C announced that striking students had accepted re-verification of LUMAT 2006.

Earlier in the day, LU V-C RP Singh met Governor-Chancellor TV Rajeswar and apprised him of lawlessness prevailing on the campus. Soon after that district and varsity administration expedited their exercise to force the student leaders to call off their stir. Apprehending tough action from the district administration, student leaders easily gave up their stir when controller of examination RBS Verma approached them.

This effort from Verma returned smiles on the faces of varsity administration, student leaders and also amongst the cops who were tired with this 10-days long agitation. LU administration also warned student leaders not to take out procession on the campus during teaching hours. “There will be a Resident Proctor in each buildings who would take care of law and order situation there and will report the central proctorial team in case of problem,” said LU V-C.
