Cold wave conditions returned to Kashmir after a day's respite as the minimum temperatures in most parts of the Valley fell by several degrees and the weather continued to remain dry.

Fog continued for the second day on Tuesday, but minimum temperatures across the Valley and Ladakh region plummeted below the freezing point, a meteorological department official said here.

Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 2.4° Celsius, down almost three notches from Monday night's low of 0.4° Celsius, he said.

The night temperature in Pahalgam also dropped three notches from the previous night's low of minus 1.5° Celsius to settle at a low of minus 4.5° Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Gulmarg settled at minus 2.0° Celsius, as compared to the 0.6° Celsius recorded a night earlier, while Kupwara recorded a low of minus 2.8° Celsius against minus 2.0° Celsius recorded on Monday night.

Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.4° Celsius, over two notches down as compared to 0.3 degrees Celsius the previous night as Kokernag settled at a minimum of minus1.0° Celsius.

The MeT office forecasted no major change in the weather, which would continue to remain dry for the next 24 hours.
