The cold wave tightened its grip in the state, as night temperature dipped further below the freezing point in most parts on Tuesday, with Leh the coldest in the state at minus 9.9° Celsius.
A meteorological department official said here that Leh continues to be the coldest recorded place in the state.
Meanwhile, temperature in the nearby Kargil town decreased by two degrees to minus 5.6° Celsius on Tuesday night, he added.
The night temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, was recorded as minus 1.3° Celsius, almost a degree down from Monday night's minus 0.4° Celsius, the official said.
He said the night temperature in Pahalgam, a tourist resort which serves as a base camp during annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir, settled at a low of minus 2.6° Celsius on Tuesday night, while it was recorded as minus 2.4° Celsius on Monday night.
The official said the famous ski resort of Gulmarg had recorded a low of minus 0.6° Celsius, while the minimum temperature in Kupwara in north Kashmir, dipped to a low of minus 2.2° Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir Valley, decreased slightly to settle at a low of minus 1.7° Celsius, the official said.
"The south Kashmir town of Kokernag was the only recorded place in the Valley where the night temperature stayed above the freezing point, and the mercury settled at a low of 1.6 degrees Celsius," he added.
