However, the college principals have decided to introduce a code of conduct for the candidates. In case of violation of the code, the elections will be suspended.

During the last academic session, many colleges did not favour students’ union elections but a Government Order forced them to hold union elections. However, the Christ Church Degree College, which had the court directives against the elections, was an exception. Other colleges had also proposed to get stay order against holding union election, but none of them filed any writ till date.

According to the district authorities, DAV, VSSD, DBS and BND colleges are highly sensitive colleges and they need careful handling during and after the elections. While the student leaders of the DAV and the VSSD colleges enjoy the patronage of political parties, the leaders of other colleges do not have the support of the political parties.

Though almost all the college principals are against union elections, they do not prefer to give vent to their feelings for fear of opposition from the students and the government as well. However, they have decided to stop the election process in the middle if the contestant violated the code of conduct during elections.
