Colleges say Stephen’s list not trendsetter

Most colleges, however, said that they would not be affected by the St Stephen’s cut-offs, but their lists might see a jump owing to the good performance in the board exams.

“We are not affected by the St Stephen’s cut-offs as they follow a different system of admission. Our cut-offs will increase, but only marginally,” said principal of Ramjas College, Rajendra Prasad, who is an alumnus of St Stephen’s College.

Students from the humanities stream, who have applied to St Stephen’s College, are the most disappointed of the lot, as the cut-offs for them are the highest owing to the high marks they scored in their Class 12 exams.

“Though we look to SRCC and Hindu more than St Stephen’s for the cut-offs, an increase for Humanities students is imminent. There is nothing colleges can do, since humanities students, who used to have lower marks than their commerce and science counterparts, are now scoring at par with them,” said a teacher at Kirori Mal College.

“It is a myth that the St Stephen’s cut-offs set a trend for all other colleges. They have a different system involving interviews and may admit a student with a lower percentage as well. Our cut-off will depend on the number of applicants and the scores of students all over India, not just CBSE,” said PC Jain, principal, SRCC.
