Chris Tremlett, who was 12th man for the first four Tests, was left out of the 13-man squad named by England selectors on Sunday as they gave injured paceman Simon Jones more time to prove his fitness for the crucial match, which starts on Thursday.

England leads the series 2-1 and Australia must win the final Test to retain the Ashes it has held since 1989. The home team needs only a draw to win back the famous urn.

"As Simon Jones is continuing to receive treatment on his injured ankle, we have decided to include both Paul Collingwood and James Anderson in the squad," chairman of selectors David Graveney said.

"This will enable us to cover all available options in terms of the balance of our final 11."

Graveney said Jones, who has taken 18 wickets in the series, would continue to receive treatment on the injury he suffered during England's three-wicket victory in the fourth Test at Trent Bridge. The bowler will undergo a fitness test on Tuesday.

"It's encouraging I haven't been told by our medical staff to write him off because he won't be fit," he said.

Anderson has played 12 tests for England, taking 35 wickets at 36.
