Browns are the current hair colour flavour though there is a small group pushing more vibrant hues, says a noted stylist.
"The trend is moving toward brown family; it's a very safe colour family to work in. Browns, metallics, bronzes, cappuccinos, coffee colours - all of this is what's happening in the market right now," said Mumbai-based Adhuna Bhabani Akhtar, the stylist credited with creating Aamir Khan's yuppie look in Dil Chahta Hai.
"Of course, there is still a small group that wants to be more vibrant, more bold, with their colours, with reds and blues. This, too, works fabulously on Indian skin tones," Akhtar told IANS on the sidelines of a seminar on hairstyling and care at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week here Friday.
Akhtar, who has been associated with the hair styling industry for two decades, hit big time with Farhan Akhtar's Dil Chahta Hai.
Recounting that experience, she said: "When we work on any film project, we start off with the script and with the director. We discuss what his ideas are and then we often work very closely with the costume department and the actors to develop their character.
"The style is determined by what the actor's natural hair is. Then we look at what are the current trends if that's what the film demands. If it's set in this date and time, then we definitely look at current trends to develop the look. Over and above that, it's about developing a character really," Akhtar added.

"It's important that an actor be made to look like the character he or she is playing and not like the superstar he or she is. Hairstyling, along with the makeup and the wardrobe, can help achieve this, Akhtar maintained.
She also provided some "basic guidelines" on face shapes and how to zero in on a style.
"Look at your jaw line and assess your face shape from how it moves up and away from the jaw line.
"If you look at my face shape, it's quite square and moves up straight. A heart shaped face would move out towards the cheekbones; a round face would move out and then come back in toward the hairline.
"With that in mind, you could wear your hair around that. So if you have a round face shape it's nice to introduce height on top. If you have an oval face shape, you can introduce a little whip on the side and if you have a square face shape, you can introduce stronger modifying lines into the hair cut," Akhtar maintained.
