Pal resigned from the Congress recently and Srivastava returned Samajwadi Party's ticket to contest the election from Kanpur.

"There is a communication gap between young leaders and old timers in the Congress," Pal said, after joining the BJP.

He had earlier this month resigned from the Lok Sabha as well as from the party, saying the emerging Congress leadership did not need leaders like him.

It was learnt the BJP might field Pal from Domariyaganj, despite opposition from some local party leaders.

"Only BJP can deliver for the nation. I will campaign for the BJP. I am not interested in contesting election. I will perform any task assigned to me," Srivastava said.

Srivastava, a stand-up comedian of repute, had returned the Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha ticket to contest from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on March 11.

Srivastava was apparently unhappy with local SP leaders who had refused to promote him and help him expand base.
