THE SEVEN-DAY ‘Rangadhar Natya Samaroh’ on the occasion of the World Theatre Day got a jumpstart with the staging of ‘Salgirah’ at Bharat Bhavan on Monday.
A true family comedy —‘Salgirah’, directed by Ashok Bulani, was originally written in Marathi by Ratnakar Matkari. It was translated into Hindi by Ashok Sharma.
A true depiction of dissonance in thoughts arising due to generation gap, the play unveils the humour that unplugs different phases of life.
Each one of us expects gifts at ‘Salgirah’ but how about a gift that creates problems for us? A father sees his child challenging his own thoughts, compelling him to ponder over the different phases of life.
On the 50th birthday of Beni, he is gifted with something different. His daughter, who as a child would seek his advice before embarking on any decision, stated very formally on her decision to marry the boy of her choice.
The play moves on and in the end Beni realises that his little girl has not made a ‘bad’ choice. It infuses a message that the parents should learn to have a faith on the decisions made by their children.
Both Rajiv Verma as Beni Madhav and Rita Verma as Chandrika give an impeccable performance. The other actors also deliver their role with ease. The language of the play is easy to understand.
