Star India’s vice-president (content) Deepak Segal informs us that the launch of Antariksh is part of an ambitious plan to change its current 8 pm primetime slot from being women-oriented to an all-family one.

"Antariksh will help make the 8 pm slot an all-family one.” And though Antariksh is not a soap in the conventional sense, “it has all the elements of a soap — drama, suspense, and emotions — woven into the traditional good versus evil battle,” he adds.

Antariksh’s main theme is the return of an exiled king, Amar, who is the hero of the story, and is the only one in the whole universe who can fight and end the tyranny of the evil mutant Rankaal.”

So is Amar another desi superhero in the making? Television had its last indigenous superhero in Shaktimaan.

“It will be great if we could repeat the success of Shaktimaan,” Segal says, adding, “This is not an unending saga. It will be wrapped up in a year.”
