Commission reconstituted to consider demands of Jats

The Haryana government today reconstituted the Haryana Backward Classes Commission under a retired judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court for considering the demand of Jats, Jat Sikhs, Rors, Tyagis and Bishnois or any other caste for inclusion in the list of Other Backward Classes.

The Haryana government on Friday reconstituted the Haryana Backward Classes Commission under a retired judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court for considering the demand of Jats, Jat Sikhs, Rors, Tyagis and Bishnois or any other caste for inclusion in the list of Other Backward Classes (OBC).

Justice KC Gupta (retired) would chairman of the three-member commission. Jai Singh Bishnoi, former member of Haryana Staff Selection Commission, and Som Dutt, advocate from Kurukshetra, are the two members. They will have a three-year term. An IAS or an HCS officer of the rank of joint secretary would be appointed as secretary of the commission.

The panel has been reconstituted for entertaining, examining and recommending upon receiving requests of Jats, Jat Sikhs, Rors, Tyagis and Bishnois or any other caste for inclusion in the list of Other Backward Classes of the State from time to time and hear complaints of over-inclusion or under-inclusion of any Backward Classes in such a list, according to an official notification.

The state authorities had promised to set up the commission after the Jats, who were demanding reservation in jobs under the OBC category, laid blockade on more than a dozen rail tracks in several parts of north India last month.
