The committee has been formed following the confusing situation that arose during the last academic session. In the 2005-06 academic session, the State Government had fixed Rs 15,000 as fees for general category students and Rs 5,000 for SC/ST students.

However, after some colleges approached the court a revised fee structure of Rs 25,000 was fixed for them. To do away with this confusion, the government has constituted a three-member committee that would decide upon a new fees structure for general category students.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the government has decided to hike the fees for SC/ST students to Rs 15,000 from the existing Rs 5,000. An order to this effect is expected within a day or two, it was learnt.
