One more person was killed on Tuesday taking the death toll to two, as the four-day communal violence in Hyde-rabad spilled beyond the boundaries of the Old City.
Some Congressmen blamed some of their own party leaders for the disturbances.
Tuesday’s victim, the owner of a garment shop died after being hit on the head when a group pelted stones at him.
Mobs smashed and burnt vehicles and targeted shops in the city and neighbouring Secunderabad on Tuesday. In contrast, in the Old City, there was uneasy calm.
On Monday, one person had been stabbed to death in the Old City’s Shalibanda area.
On Tuesday, miscreants targeted Hyderabad’s Bholakpur, Ranigunj and Paradise Circle areas. At least 13 people, including two policemen, were injured and more than 60 vehicles damaged.
Some senior Congress leaders from Telangana alleged the riots were the handiwork of a section of their party colleagues to destabilise Chief Minister K. Rosaiah’s government.
“It’s a conspiracy similar to the one in 1990 to remove then Congress chief minister M. Chenna Reddy by engineering a riot,” Congress MP from Nizamabad Madhu Yashki Goud said, a statement the Opposition gleefully exploited.
