Historically, in Christ we find a quantum leap from the ethical injunctions of Moses to the affirmative principles of living for proper spiritual evolution. This graduation from elementary ethics to highest spiritual precepts for self-realisation is the keynote of the teachings of Jesus.

"Thou shall love the Lord, thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment." He was always uncompromising that first we must seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Any hardcore materialist might feel such precepts as world-negating but life on earth can be truly fulfilling with such anchorage only.

The assertion of the inherent divinity of man runs parallel with eastern spirituality, "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God and that the spirit of God dwelth within you?" Again in Psalms we are told, "Be still and know that I am God." Such spirituality can only be translated into action through love for neighbours and exhibiting perpetual forgiveness.

To face today's trouble-torn reality, we must remember Jesus, "All that they take the sword shall perish with the sword." But if we give love, we will get back love as those that give shall receive. But ultimate liberation will come from knowledge, "Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."
