MEMBERS OF the Allahabad University Students Union (AUSU), led by their office-bearers, held a meeting in the union hall on Saturday to condole the death of the AU student who committed suicide in his hostel room yesterday.

In view of the tragedy, AUSU president Ajit Kumar Yadav called off the gherao of Vice-Chancellor Prof RG Harshe on the issue of removal of the AU Examination Controller.
Earlier in the morning, Yadav and other student leaders, including Vijay Dwivedi, Anand Singh and Sanjeev Rai went to the SRN hospital where the post mortem examination of the student’s body was performed.
The student leaders demanded implementation of the student insurance scheme and compensation to the family of the deceased.The student leaders also demanded an inquiry into the case.Those present on the occasion included Santosh Yadav, Sachindra Rai, Ziya Kaunen Rizvi, Vivek Singh and Rohit Tiwari.
Meanwhile, a delegation of AU students met the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Procter Prof HN Mishra to put forward their demands on Saturday. The delegation demanded inquiry into the suicide case and compensation to the bereaved family. The delegation was led by Rajesh Singh and AUSU general secretary Suresh Yadav.
The student leaders demanded that the AU authorities trace the reasons responsible for the suicide by the student.

{{/usCountry}}Yadav said that the authorities should inquire if the student committed suicide in depression owing to harassment by any of the teachers of the zoology department. The delegates demanded compensation to the family of the deceased.
The delegation also included Samar Bahadur Singh, Amit Singh, Munna Yadav, Gyanendra Singh, Raghavendra Patel, Mohd Amir and Vineet Verma.
Scribes give memo
Local electronic media correspondents of around 12 channels handed over a memorandum to the divisional commissioner Dr Lalit Verma here on Saturday demanding action against those involved in attack on CNN-IBN team and other media in Lucknow on Tuesday. These correspondents demanded their safety in view of frequent attacks on TV journalists. They said the action in the incident with advocates in Allahabad was not taken so far by the district administration.
