THE SPECIAL bench of the Lok Adalat disbursed a total of Rs 1,06,74,800 towards accident compensation claims settlements here on Sunday.
Hearing 108 accident compensation claim cases, a panel of judges under directions of district judge Renu Sharma and special judge Anurag Shrivastava, ordered insurance companies to pay compensations to applicants.
The cases were settled on the basis of mutual agreements by the special bench of the Lok Adalat so that the accident victims could get their claims settled within a short period, instead of usually long practice.
Insurance companies that participated in the Lok Adalat and settled claims were New India Insurance, United India Insurance, National Insurance, Oriental Insurance and Bajaj Allainz Insurance Company.
In addition, 17 cases related to Cooperative Department and Cooperative Banks were heard by the special bench and claims worth Rs 6,47,082 were awarded.
The Lok Adalat’s bench has been taking up cases on fast-track basis in awarding of compensations, so that accident victims could be benefited in availing of treatment and support to the victims’ families. The cases dealt by the bench ranges from civil to criminal, family disputes to compensation claims, under which settlement is reached through mutual agreements. The bench comprised additional session judges Anil Gupta, RN Chand and SK Raghuvanshi.
