There is improvement in the condition of 10 members of a family admitted to hospital after a 38-day fast at the Ajmer Dargah, doctor said. Three of the family’s children had died after the marathon fast.
A medical board carried out the post mortem of the three dead children on Tuesday. Some relatives of the family are arriving from Allahabad. the Dargah Committee has said they will conduct the funeral of the dead children and will meet all expenses of the family.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot announced Rs20,000 for each of the children who died.
All 13 family members were fasting since the last 38 days at the Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti to ward off ‘black magic’ which they said had been performed by some relatives. Nausher
Dr Ashok Meharda, superintendent at Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital where all the patients have been admitted, said, “There is improvement in their condition. All are fine now.” On Monday night when they were brought to the hospital, they had resisted treatment.
Mohammed Mustafa Sheikh (52), hiswife Munni Begum (45), sons Sher Ali (28), Gulsher (26), Mohammed Kalam (16), and daughters Nargis (25), and Rizwana (19) and three grandchildren Shara (8), and twins Ali Hasan and Heena (3), (all are Nargis’s children) are recuperating in hospital.

Sheikh, who worked in the Merchant Navy as an oiler and is now retired, came to Ajmer with his family almost three years back.
According to Sher Ali, the family is well-off and had substantial property in Allahabad. He said his siblings were studying in a convent school in Allahabad. He also worked in the Merchant Navy.
He said they left home five years back after some relatives did black magic and cast a spell on them to take away their property.
“We kept falling ill in Allahabad. So we went to a dargah in Badayun and spent time there. Someone told us to come to Ajmer where we could break the spell.
In Ajmer, the family stayed at the Bharat guest house. Nargis’s husband in the UAE used to send money to the family on which they survived, said Sher Ali.
