A UPCC delegation comprising senior party leaders met the Governor today and submitted a memorandum demanding dismissal of the minister, registration of a case against him and a CBI inquiry into the charges.

Congress leaders said the Governor was serious about the issue as this was for the first time that such a case had come to the notice of the Raj Bhawan.

Congress leaders alleged that instead of taking any action Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav was shielding the criminals. “A criminal-friendly government is in power,” they said adding the minister’s admission about acceptance of bribe for drug trafficking was a serious issue. Ali should no more remain part of the ministry,” they said. As Ali had indicated towards the complicity of Jail Minister Rakesh Verma, a CBI probe was necessary, they said.
