Cong blames SP govt for all ills in State

SENIOR CONGRESS leaders on Monday came down heavily on rival parties, especially ruling Samajwadi Party, in Uttar Pradesh, holding them responsible for all ?ills? in the State after the exit of Congress regime about one and a half decades ago. This was probably for the first time in the recent past that the Congress could demonstrate its strength on its own and highlight the failures of previous governments as well as the present Mulayam Singh-led Samajwadi Party government in the State.

This was probably for the first time in the recent past that the Congress could demonstrate its strength on its own and highlight the failures of previous governments as well as the present Mulayam Singh-led Samajwadi Party government in the State.

Union Minister of State for Labour, Chandershekhar Sahoo, who also attended the rally, provided ammunition to the local Congress leaders to fire at the Samajwadi Party. He accused the latter of diverting funds at the cost of development in the State.

“The State government has done nothing for the people and the records show funds released for several Central sponsored schemes have been diverted”,

Sahoo said amid applause from the audience. He said cash doles being offered to unemployed youth was not going to shape the future of the State. “The main emphasis should have been laid on development of basic infrastructure in the State”, he suggested.

He exhorted the people to uproot what he called anti-people Samajwadi Party government as and when election for the State Assembly takes place.

In his speech, UPCC chief Salman Khurshid lashed at the Samajwadi Party government for pushing the State backward and allowing crime to flourish.

He said there was no provision in the budget for unemployment allowance and warned the people that all the schemes launched by the Mulayam government would remain in force only till elections. However, he hinted at continuance of such allowances if Congress returned to power in the State.

Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, Pramod Tiwari, and local MP Dr Rajesh Mishra, were among those who addressed the rally.

The leaders also called on the district magistrate Varanasi and forwarded a charter of demands.
