Against the backdrop of the controversy involving Natwar Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has said the party's commitment was to honesty and integrity in public life and there can be no compromise.
"Our commitment is to honesty and probity in public life and at this level we must not condone any compromise. Instead, we must lead by example," she said in her "Letter to Congress workers" in the latest issue of party mouthpiece "Congress Sandesh".
While she made no reference to Singh, who was suspended from the party in the wake of his indictment by the Pathak authority on the issue of Iraqi oil contracts, Gandhi's statement has come after the former External Affairs Minister told her that she should go into the case against him and not the Disciplinary Action Committee.
Incidentally, the latest issue of Congress Sandesh showed that Natwar Singh has been removed as chairman of its editorial board.
Singh's name does not figure in the issue of the party mouthpiece which was released on Saturday.
