SENIOR CONGRESS leader Diwaker Singh and corporator Nabiullah Ansari flayed the State Government for the grim power scenario in the city.

They said the exemption of the city from late night rostering was a joke and people of Gorakhpur were facing acute power shortage. They added that city was reeling under complete power blackout for last one week and officials of the power corporation department were expressing their helplessness on the issue.
Moreover, the corporation had launched a drive to disconnect the power connections of the defaulters, they said. Constant power cuts, inflated bills and harassment of power consumers by the departmental officials can trigger a law and order problem in the city, the Congress leader said.
Besides, the Congress leader, various trader organisations and political parties were staging battle against the power scenario in the city. Unscheduled power cuts with soaring temperature have coupled the problems of the people and thrown normal life out of gear.
Almost 10 to 12 hours of black out in the city has adversely affected the water supply system in various localities.
On Thursday, the city experienced power rostering for 13 hours. While on Friday there was no electricity for almost 10 hours. Deputy general manger of the Power Corporation PN Srivastav said rostering was conducted on directive of the power control system.
Meanwhile, the BJP activists blocked the traffic movement at the Goplapur to register their protest against unscheduled and prolonged power rostering in the city. They also staged dharna at power substation at Gola.
