A day after Congress MLA Kunwar Pranav ‘Champion’ reportedly opened gunfire at a cabinet minister’s residence in Dehradun, the opposition BJP questioned the law and order situation in Uttarakhand assembly on Wednesday.

According to reports, the Congress legislator from Khanpur constituency reportedly fired in the air at Harak Singh Rawat’s dinner party late on Tuesday.

Two persons, including one Congress leader, were injured in the incident.

“Those who are responsible for law and order are themselves involved in creating panic,” said leader of opposition Ajay Bhatt on the opening day of the monsoon session of assembly.

Bhatt also asked why the FIR did not carry the MLA’s name even as everyone knew who opened fire.

The ruling Congress, meanwhile, tried to control the damage. Chief minister Vijay Bahuguna told Hindustan Times: “No one is above the law”. But he ducked queries on why none was named in the FIR.

The minister concerned, Rawat, also went silent after the incident. “I have no idea what happened,” said the senior Congress leader at whose house the firing incident took place.
