Cong names Rane for Goa Assembly speaker post

Former Goa chief minister is declared as an official candidate of Congress combine front for the post of Speaker of the Goa House.

Former Goa Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane was on Thursday declared as an official candidate of Congress combine front for the post of speaker of the Goa House.

Rane filed three sets of nomination this morning before legislature secretary T Dhruva Kumar.

The BJP on other hand has fielded Laxmikant Parsekar as its candidate.

Anil Salgaokar an Independent candidate has also filed his nomination which is backed by two BJP legislators.

The special one-day session to elect Speaker will be held on Friday.
