The kin of 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims today blamed the Congress government for pressuring the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to not act against the accused in the riots case.
Meeting on Tuesday, an organisation of riot survivors—‘November 1984 Riot Victim ihar—demanded that the case against the Congress leaders accused in the riots case, should proceed in court and the witnesses should be cross-examined if there is a need.
“The CBI had recorded the statements of riot victims in various courts of Delhi under Section 164 of the CrPC but has yet to take any action on basis of those statements. The CBI officer investigating the case had promised us that the culprits would be arrested soon but nothing has happened,” said Atma Singh Lubana, president, November 1984 Riot Victim Camps.
These statements were recorded while investigating two FIRs (no. 250/84 and 252/84) registered in the killing of 450 persons in Sultanpuri area on November 1, 1984.
“A huge mob dragged families out of their houses and butchered them and had set a Gurudwara on fire. We have been fighting for justice for 25 years but no one is ready to help us,” said Bhagwani Devi (72) who lost her husband, two sons and brother-in-law in riots.
