Union minister for health and family welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday described the sanctioning of five medical colleges for Jammu and Kashmir as a “historic decision of Congress-led UPA”, and further stated that it will help to provide advance medical facilities to people in Kathua district in general and hilly and border belts in particular.
Azad further highlighted that the state had only three medical colleges till date. “A super specialty hospital, on the pattern of AIIMS, has also been made functional in Jammu which would help the people of the state get advance medical care in the home state,” said Azad.
Observing that Congress is contesting Lok Sabha elections on the development plank, Azad said that during its regime, Congress had proved how to deliver good governance to the people.
Addressing a series of public meetings in Kathua area, Azad, who is contesting Lok Sabha elections from Doda-Udhampur parliamentary constituency said, “Five medical colleges have been sanctioned for Jammu and Kashmir and the amount for their set up has also been sanctioned.”
Seeking mandate of the people to accelerate developmental activities in remote and far-flung areas, Azad said that Congress was committed to counter and defeat divisive forces tooth and nail and would always work for development of the country irrespective of any caste, colour or religion.
Azad called upon the people to be aware of the policies being formulated by the divisive forces and urged them to strengthen “secular Congress party, which ensures development and integrity of nation”.
