"Prof Saifuddin Soz MP, former Union minister and president of the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee has constituted two committees for Jammu and Kashmir provinces," a Congress spokesman said on Thursday.

These committees will ensure that the membership drive is completed properly through the state by the end of February 2015, he said.

A 12-member committee headed by former tourism minister Gulam Ahmed Mir has been announced for Kashmir Valley, while the second 11-member panel headed by former Minister Sham Lal Sharma will undertake the drive in Jammu region.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is aiming to topple records by enrolling 10 crore members, said 53,201 new members have been enrolled into the party in the state where a membership drive was put on hold due to the assembly elections.

The Communist Party of China has created a world record by registering 6.48 crore members.
