The Congress reiterated its demand for a CBI inquiry into the Noida killings while calling for swift action against the guilty, expressing "shock" at SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav’s insensitivity in describing the "unparalleled and unprecedented event" as a "minor incident" and criticising Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav for not visiting the area.

"We want the CBI to inquire into the tragedy. The local inquiry should be completed in three months, the chargesheet should be filed in three to four months and the prosecution completed in six month," demanded spokesman Abhishek Singhvi.

The Congress leader sidestepped queries whether party president Sonia Gandhi would go to Nithari to commiserate with the victims’ families.

Dubbing as "digressive" the CM’s allegations that the Mohinder Singh Pandher was related to a Congress leader, Singhvi retorted: 'We call for swiftest action no matter who is involved - Congress or non-Congress (person)."

According to Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh saw no logic in Yadav’s allegations. "Just because two people are related does not mean anything," he said in general terms and without any reference to Pandher.
